Audio Interview: Two Men Discuss the Time They Spent in Ad-Seg at Mule Creek State Prison
Damon Anderson and Johnny Baca recently spent about two months inside “the hole” courtesy of decision-makers at Mule Creek State Prison in Ione, California.
In this approximately 20-minute interview, conducted over the phone on May 5, both men describe the experience and what they endured. They also explain how and why they ended up in administrative segregation, what they did to keep their mental health intact during prolonged confinement in ad-seg, the use of “the hole” to discipline prisoners who refuse to share information about other incarcerated persons with correctional officers and more.
The interview took place in two separate calls after the phone service disconnected us at the 15-minute mark of the first conversation. I spliced together audio from both and lightly edited the interview, which you can listen to below the photo of Damon — no familial relation to your Waywards publisher, despite our shared last name — below.
